Andy Hill, President
Andy Hill grew up in western Michigan and southern California. Like most parking professionals, took a circuitous route into our industry working as an EMT, paramedic, cook, bouncer, bartender, mover, restaurant manager, youth counselor, and undergraduate assistant between graduating high school and finishing college. He attended Miami University at Oxford (Ohio) and took professional positions thereafter with City Year, Outward Bound, the New England Center for Autism, and the YMCA of the USA before finding his way to the parking industry.
Andy was a planner, analyst, and project manager for Walker (Parking) Consultants from 1999 to 2010, starting in their Indianapolis office before moving to Boston. During this period, Mr. Hill completed over 150 parking and mobility studies for a wide variety of clients including municipalities, casinos, airports, healthcare institutions, colleges and universities, convention centers, arenas, private developers, public authorities, architects, investment and equity funds, law firms, and real estate management firms.
In early 2010, Andy accepted a contract with Boston-based parking operator VPNE Parking Solutions. As the Director of Special Projects, his duties included developing operating, staffing and budget plans for new accounts; selecting, purchasing and overseeing installation of PARCS equipment; designing revenue control, accounting and reporting procedures; and providing independent audits of the various accounts.
At the conclusion of this contract, Andy joined DESMAN’s Boston office in the fall of 2011 as senior consultant. He was made an Associate within the firm in 2015 and promoted to the role of Director of Consulting Services in 2017. He currently executes or oversees performance of over fifty parking and mobility studies annually across DESMAN’s nine offices nationally.
Andy has been a speaker for events hosted by the National Parking Association, the International Downtown Association, the New England Parking Council, the Boston Society of Architects, the American Planning Association, and the City of Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has authored articles and white papers for Parking Today and the National Parking Association. He was also a contributor to the Urban Land Institute’s The Dimensions of Parking: Fifth Edition.
He is currently the President of the New England Parking Council, where he has served in various roles on the Board of Directors since 2008. He previously served as the Eastern Region Chairman for the Parking Consultants Council and on the 2010 NPA National Convention Board.
A native of Flint, Michigan, Mr. Hill is the son of an automotive engineer, the brother to a mechanic, and nephew and cousin to nine autoworkers, and believes parking and mobility are in his DNA. Outside of work, he is partner in a family-run Christmas tree farm located in southern New Hampshire where he resides. He is the father to two daughters, one bonus daughter, and one bonus son. When he isn’t working or farming, he likes to fly-fish, hiking, cook, read, and play with his three dogs.
