My EV bike is a game changer!!
by Suzanne Rinfret
Who knew at 60, I would be riding my bike to work during the week and adventures on the weekend!
Let me start out by saying I’m no super athletic 60 something that works out and is in awesome shape. I sit at my desk 8+ hours a day, go home, watch the newest #1 on Netflix, go to bed and start all over again. I knew I couldn’t continue on this sedentary lifestyle it would make me old fast. I belong to a gym, I go a few times get sore then don’t go, a vicious cycle. I needed something I enjoy doing. I thought I always enjoyed bike riding why not try that. The new street designs with bike lanes both protected and painted, I feel safer to ride a bike. I really wanted to ride to work on my traditional bike but being in my 60’s and not a super athlete, it would result in me being hot and sweaty and that would be on a flat surface! As much as I wanted to bike I just couldn’t bring myself to feeling like that a the beginning of my day.
I knew I had to do something. Going to the gym is not for me.
I started researching the new EV bikes. I read in the reviews, there are quite a few mature adults riding. I looked at many and purchased one. WOW, game changer! You still pedal but that bit of assistance makes all the difference. Going to work is a breeze, literally, I feel refreshed at the start of my day. I make it to work faster by bike than by car!
I had never tried the electric bike and took a chance. My first ride, I was a bit apprehensive because once I started to pedal the bike felt like it was going to take off. It didn’t and I learned how to change the gears and control the pedal assist motor. The maiden voyage was over 6 miles, I felt safe! I traveled in the bike lanes, and I felt great! I couldn’t wait for my next ride. Where would I go? I took the Minute Man Bikeway from Somerville to Lexington! Now I’m mapping trips to all around! The connectivity of bike paths is amazing!
On my traditional bike I would see a hill and before I even started up, I was sweating, just hoping I would make it and not have to belittle myself by walking the bike. Hills are no longer a worry. I add a little power, lower my gear and you would swear you were on a flat surface. Long trips no worry! I have a ‘comfort’ seat, also amazing! This is the most exercise I’ve gotten in years, not to mention the fun! Who knew I could use fun and exercise in the same sentence? Within the first month I racked up over 150 miles! My traditional bike may have a whopping 50 miles in ten years!
Try it! You’ll love it! Total game changer!
